Council members and transition coordinators may participate in the webinars from 9:00-11:00 at IU25 or from another location on their own computer.

Laurie also shared next year’s meeting schedules for both the Council and for the Transition Coordinators meeting. The group discussed many ideas for increasing parent and student involvement on the Council, and ways to inform parents about local agencies and transition activities. This will be a priority in the fall. Suggestions were recorded and will be used for planning for next year’s meetings and future events.

Tiffany Bendistis spoke about the coordinated transition activities that she has created for her students at Rose Tree Media. She said she will share her plan if you email her at tbendistis@rtms.org

Mary Beth Morgan shared that the funding for the Statewide Youth Transition Initiative has been discontinued. Mary Beth will continue her list-serve and will stay as involved in the Council as her schedule permits. She will be working as a Transition Coordinator in Philadelphia.

Michele Boardman shared information about the Work Incentive Counseling available through AHEDD. For more information, contact Michele at Michele.boardman@ahedd.org

Diane Perry shared information about the Special Kids Network and the Transition Health Care Checklist available at: www.health.state.pa.us/transitionchecklist For more information, contact Diane.

Karissa Fridley shared information about supported employment and the DCIU Supported Employment Forum. For more about the forum, contact Karissa at kfridley@thearcofdelco.org

Michael Wakefield gave a presentation on Project SEARCH, a program for adults with disabilities whose main goal is employment. Participants learn job skills and gain experience with job development and job placement. Mike will do a formal presentation for the Council on Project SEARCH in the fall with Michelle Epstein, the Program Coordinator. For more information, contact Mike at wakefieldm@mlhs.org

The group was reminded about the PA Community on Transition Conference scheduled for July 16-18, 2014 at the Penn Stater Conference Center and Hotel. Registration is available on the PaTTAN website: www.pattan.net Scholarships are available to families and youth who need support in order to attend the conference. The scholarship will cover the registration fee and hotel. See the website for more information.

Laurie encouraged the group to “save the date” November 13, 2014 for the AT Expo at the PaTTAN office in King of Prussia. Registration details will be available on the PaTTAN website soon.

The meeting was adjourned. The next meeting (and the first meeting of the 2014-15 school year) for the DCIU Transition Council is November 19, 2014 from 12:30 pm-2:00 pm.
